Contemporary Ballet provides a platform for Contemporary Ballet Dancers and Choreographers and is run in association with Ballet Grand Prix - Scotland.
Directors Sindy Monson and Constance Devernay-Laurence draw on their extensive experience within the genres of Contemporary and Modern Ballet to forward awareness of work in the field of Contemporary Ballet and support artists developing the genre.
Contemporary Ballet is structured into two main events. The first is a choreographic platform inviting submissions of new works for three categories; Neo-Classical, Contemporary Ballet, and Contemporary. A panel of assessors determine which pieces will be awarded medals, with outstanding work chosen to be performed as part of our second event 'Contemporary Ballet Artist'.
Contemporary Ballet Artist is a competition inviting applications from pre-professional dancers with a minimum age of 14 years. Dancers first participate in our semi-final event which consists of a Contemporary Ballet workshop. In the workshop, the dancers participate in class and creative work to allow assessors to see their full range of abilities. Dancers chosen for Finals learn three set solos to perform on stage, and participate in a group dance. Medals for Gold, Silver, and Bronze are awarded based on individual merits.
